Question 1

How is this different from the built-in macOS screenshot?

Accepted Answer

The built-in tool ends at a file on your desktop. Floatie ends at a floating shot on your screen: you can annotate it, copy the text inside, fade it, pin it above other apps, and drag it straight into Slack or Finder — without opening an editor or hunting for a file.

Question 2

Is it a subscription?

Accepted Answer

Your choice. Floatie is free for 14 days with everything unlocked. After that a one-time purchase unlocks Floatie Pro for good on all your Macs, or a monthly or yearly plan does the same and adds Floatie Link Pro on top — longer links, a much bigger daily limit, custom URLs and automatic upload.

Question 3

Do my screenshots leave my Mac?

Accepted Answer

Only the ones you send. Capture, editing, recording and text recognition all run on-device in a sandbox and keep working with the network off. A shot reaches floatie.page only when you turn it into a link, which needs a free account — and deleting the link deletes the image with it.

Question 4

Which languages does text recognition support?

Accepted Answer

English, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), recognized locally through Apple’s Vision framework. The interface itself ships in over 90 languages.

Question 5

Can I change what the corner buttons do?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Each of the four corners can hold any action — ghost, pin, edit, OCR, shrink, flip, color picker, cute float, share, or close — in Settings → Appearance → Corner Buttons. Recordings have their own set.

Question 6

Can I record my screen too?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Region (⌥⇧2), window (⌥⇧3), or full screen (⌥⇧1) to MP4. The recording lands in a floating preview you can trim, crop, and blur before dragging it out.

Question 7

What happens to a shot I close?

Accepted Answer

It waits in the history rail (⌘⇧H, or nudge the screen edge). History is kept locally and survives a restart. Click a thumbnail to bring the shot back, or remove it for good.

Question 8

Which Macs are supported?

Accepted Answer

macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on Apple Silicon and Intel. Full VoiceOver support and a keyboard-only capture mode are included.
