Drag it out, or just ⌘C
A floating shot becomes a file the moment another app asks for one.

How it works
Grab the handle and drag it into a file
Grab the handle at the bottom center of the shot and drop it onto Finder, Slack, Mail, Notion, or any browser upload field. The file is created the moment you drop it — nothing is written to disk before the drag. The name follows the filename format you set, and a Retina shot gets the @2x suffix according to the same rule.
Drag Out
When on, ⌘C makes a copy in the save folder first and adds that path too.
⌘C gives you pixels, and a file if you need one
⌘C puts the image on the clipboard. That's enough for most apps, but some strictly sandboxed ones only accept a real file URL. Turn on 'Save a copy on ⌘C' in Settings and it creates a real file in the save folder first, then puts that path on the clipboard too, so even the strict apps accept it. It's off by default because a shortcut you press dozens of times a day shouldn't fill up a folder.
Drag Out
Decides whether the shot closes after the drag or stays put.
Close after dropping, or stay
The default is for the shot to close once it's delivered — you captured it to send, so the job's done. If you're dropping the same capture into several places in a row, turn on 'Keep after drag.' The shot stays put with its opacity restored, waiting for the next drop. Recording previews have the same setting, kept separately.
When you'd use it
Attaching to an email
Instead of saving, finding it, and attaching it, just drag it onto the compose window.
Uploading to a web form
Drop it right on the file field. The browser gets a proper PNG, not a clipboard blob.
Filing it into a folder
Drag it to Finder and it lands named according to the filename format you set.
Questions about this
Where does the dragged file come from?
It's created the moment you drop it, either in the app's temp space or in the save folder you set. Nothing is written before the drag.
Why does the shot disappear after I drop it?
That's the default — the job's done. Turn on 'Keep after drag' in Settings to leave it in place.
Does it work with apps that only accept a file URL?
Yes. Turn on 'Save a copy on ⌘C' and it creates a real file first, one even the strictest apps will accept.
