How it works
See pixels while you draw the region
The crosshair is the system one, so hands trained on ⌘⇧4 just work. A 5× magnifier follows the pointer and live dimensions sit under the selection, so you can crop exactly to the pixel without zooming in to fix it later. Press space mid-drag to move the whole selection, and Esc backs out without capturing anything.
It becomes a window, not a file
The capture floats where you drew it, staying above other apps. It's a panel, not a modal, so the app underneath keeps receiving clicks — capture a value and type it straight into the form it came from. Drag the shot by its body to move it, and while it's open it remembers its own size, opacity, and corner settings separately.
Close it, leave it, or hide everything
Esc closes the frontmost shot, ⌘⌥W closes all of them, and ⌘L hides every shot at once for screen sharing — press it again to bring them back. Nothing gets written to disk in the meantime. Closed shots go to history, and a file is only created when you drag one out, copy it with a save folder set, or save it directly.
When you'd use it
Copying numbers off a dashboard
Capture the figures and float them over your spreadsheet while you type. No switching windows back and forth, no need for a second monitor.
Comparing two versions
Capture before and after side by side, and they stay floating right over the app that made them.
Filing a bug
Capture the error, drag it into the issue tracker, and close it. Nothing's left behind in a desktop folder.
Questions about this
Does every capture save a file?
No. Shots live only in memory and history — they become a file only when you drag one out, copy it with a save folder set, or save it directly.
Can I capture a menu that closes on click?
Yes. Press the shortcut while the menu is still open. The selection overlay doesn't steal focus from the app underneath.
What happens with an external monitor?
A full-screen capture shoots the display your pointer is on, and the shot floats on the screen where you drew the region.
