How it works

100%
100%

Each shot remembers its own value — fade one and leave the rest solid.

Scroll the wheel over a shot, or use the buttons
01

One scroll and it goes transparent

Scroll the wheel over a floating shot and opacity moves in 5% steps. The direction can be flipped in Settings, and each shot remembers its own value, so you can keep just the reference one faded while the rest stay sharp. The starting opacity for new shots is also set in Settings.

Ghost mode is what lets clicks through

Fading a shot doesn't stop it from taking clicks. To let them reach the app underneath, press ⌘L for ghost mode. That's when you can trace over a reference, or keep a checklist above a form while you fill the form in. Shortcuts and corner buttons stay alive in ghost mode, so ⌘L brings it back. Opacity bottoms out at 20% — a shot you can't see is a shot you can't get back.

Match the scroll direction to your hand

Whether scrolling up makes a shot more or less opaque can be flipped with 'Scroll direction' in Settings ▸ Appearance, because trackpad natural-scroll users and wheel-mouse users expect opposite things. Zoom scrolling and recording previews each keep their own direction too, so changing one doesn't drag the others along with it.

When you'd use it

Tracing a layout

Float the reference image faintly over your editor and line it up as you type underneath, row by row.

Working through a checklist

Leave the steps floating at low opacity while you fill out the form behind it.

Questions about this

Does a faded shot still block clicks?

It does. A faded shot still takes clicks. Press ⌘L for ghost mode to let them through.

Does opacity get saved?

Each shot remembers its own value while it's open, and the default for new shots is in Settings ▸ Appearance.

Can I change it without a mouse?

Yes. Corner buttons and shortcuts both work. The scroll direction can also be flipped in Settings.
